Isabelle Courroy, the first woman soloist on the oblique kaval flutes of the Balkans and Anatolia, works on the visceral power of breath embodied in a complex sound material, the smallest details of which she makes audible. The plasticity of her style integrates both the archaic and contemporary dimensions of her instruments, taking them freely to the most contemporary side of creative music.
Nurturing a lifelong thought and practique of “the gap”, she develops the concept of oblique music, whose use and transdisciplinary she intends to share unreservedly.
This singular, oblique, feminine voice cuts across genres and aesthetics, opening up new creative avenues.
Isabelle Courroy composes and commissions new works for her instruments from composers Zad Moultaka, Michel Moglia and François Wong.
She also innovates in the field of new instrument making, in partnership with makers, modelers, glassmakers and researchers.
She initiates and federates numerous creations (… L’immobile voyage with Shadi Fathi, Les Trois lignes, with Henri Tournier and Marine Sablonnière etc…), supported by L’oreille buissonnière, a structure she created in 2011. She is also frequently invited to join the projects of other artists, notably Bruno Allary of Cie Rassegna, Musicatreize, Canticum Novum…
She has an international career.
Her discography has been acclaimed by the Académie Charles Cros, Les Victoires de la Musique, Diapason d’or, ffff de Télérama…
